Several years ago my dear friend Mary asked for assistance with making a T-shirt quilt for her husband Jeff.  The majority of the T-shirts were from Alaska so Mary wanted to use my snow dyed fabric.  We spent the afternoon selecting several yard sized pieces that went well together.
Might I say at this point that Mary is not a quilter and had no idea what she was getting into.  We started by stabilizing the t-shirts and then arranging them for the quilt top.  As we lived four hours apart Mary found help in her area for assembling the quilt top.  She sent me a sample of the color for the drops and I created a custom hand dyed color for the quilt.
Mike & I just made a trip to Montana to visit Mary & Jeff.  While admiring the quilt I noticed that not all of the basting had been removed.  I thought that it was only appropriate that I finish the quilt Mary and I had started.  It turned out beautifully.

Experiment Continue!
It all starts with PFD fabric, glass marbled, rubber bands and a good movie.
After time in the dye buckets, a couple of rinses, the marbled and rubber bands must come out. My hands turn interesting colors, but wears off in a few days.

Guardian Spirits by Joy Hegglund
Nothing makes me happier than seeing my hand marbled fabrics turned into wonderful, brilliant, amazing creations. A couple of Summers ago I received a this photo from Joy Hegglund. She had taken the photo on Hornby Island, BC, Canada. Joy was excited to be taking a class from Kathy McNeil and she would be using this photo. Kathy was kind enough to recommend my hand marbled fabrics to her students. Joy wanted a range of grays dark to light and a selection of blacks. I started experimenting with a gradation of grays, dying them and then marbling. Joy had planned ahead, so I was able to get her hand marbled fabrics to her in plenty of time class her class.
Earlier this week another photo arrived of the completed quilt, Guardian Spirits. Congratulations are in order as Guardian Spirits has been accepted into International Quilt Festival, Houston 2015.
It takes my breath away. Â I love seeing the original photo and then Joy’s creation. Â Is it just me are do I see faces in some of the rocks?
Guardians?
OK, I had to show off my hand marbled fabric. Â I am in the middle of adding new color and updating existing colors to my web site. Â Take a look!
